Open-source Initiative is started by its founder Vivek Khare to form a community of people passionate about Open-source solutions. We are driven by our passion to help individuals & organisations who are willing to deploy open-source solutions and share their knowledge with others.

Message from the founder

Hi Open Source Enthusiasts,

I have been working on open source solutions for past 20 years in some forms and have always been fascinated by the cost effectiveness, security and performance of these solutions. I have implemented hundreds of open source solutions across the organisations where I worked and reaped immense benefits.

One challenge that I always found and wanted to resolve was thee difficulty in starting the open-source journey.

Often People don’t know where to start, which open-source solution fits their need/can replace an existing properietary solutions.

Open-source still for many is a difficult journey because they don’t get much hand-holding. There is lot of documentation about installing, configuring and customising open-source solution but less support or I would say knowledge about available support.

People don’t want to deploy open-source in production since they are not sure whom to reach if they face an issue.

OSI (Open-Source Initiative) is an effort to help beginners to start their journey with as much hand-holding as we may provide to have at least one new deployment run in production environment for a company.

We have experts in the group who have been conducting sessions, answering queries on challenges/issues/errors faced by other members and also deploy open-source solutions in members’ production environment.

I have the vision to make this initiative reached to thousands of people with support of these thousands of people to embark on the journey to open-source.

Best,
Vivek

About Me

I started my career in 1994, the year when Linux was born. I got first opportunity to explore Linux in 1998 and never stopped post that. I have been associated with many ILUG (India Linux User Groups) and ran few on my own. I have been active member of ILUG Bangalore and later FOSS. Few years in my career, I had to work on many proprietary applications and did not get opportunity to actively contribute to Open-Source but during that period I observed the challenges, advantages and ways to migrate from proprietary applications to open-source, more so the need than the actual migration at times.

In past 6-7 years I have deployed many open-source solutions in the organisations where I worked and realised the benefits of cost effective, secure, flexible, easy and high performing solutions as compared to most of the proprietary applications.

I am still learning, deploying and in the process helping others who are interested. Perhaps the journey for many will be easier than my own and this will create a rippling effect to make it easier for new generations.

Yours truly,

Vivek Khare
